Today is Christmas Eve and tomorrow is Christmas.
A lot of people have started their vacation and are enjoying their time off with family and friends. Lots of gift-wrapping and exchanging of presents occur as well. These are all enjoyable activities to do, but I find that it strays people away from what Christmas is.
Luke 2 tells us that during this time, Joseph was on his way to Bethlehem, Judea, with his betrothed, Mary, who was with child*. Travelling back then was not an easy thing to do - no cars to sit comfortably in, no rest stations with McDonalds where you can buy 40 nuggets for approximately eight dollars USD. No planes either. It's just not as easy, convenient and enjoyable as it is now. But God has His plans, for prophecies to be fulfilled, and to shock the world. The child to be born of a virgin mother, conceived by the Holy Spirit, is Jesus Christ (that is, Immanuel: God with us). God loves His people so much that He sent His Son on earth, to be born not in a glamourous way befitting for a king, but instead in the humblest way (Philippians 2:6-7), laying in a manger. And Jesus, the rightful and sinless king, will redeem His people to God through His blood. Therefore, Christmas is a day of light for those in darkness. Christmas is a day of hope for the weary and troubled.
So turn your eyes upon Jesus. Look full in His wonderful face! And when you focus on Him, on His glory and His grace, you'll realize that the things on earth (pleasures and conveniences of this world) will grow dim. So let's turn our eyes on Him now and forever.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face.
And the things on earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.
Merry Christmas :)

*DT's notes: "child" caught my attention because in today's society/this generation, not a lot of people would think of the "child" as a child (e.g. there is a child in my womb). Some may be more technical and say it is a fetus. To me, a fetus sounds less "alive" and "living" compared to a child...if you know what I mean. I just found it interesting that it was written as "child" because it makes each child in a mother's womb much more precious - it's a precious life!!!
