the bigger picture.

I was actually able to think deeply after watching the 8 o'clock show, because chi lam (the sushi chef) was asked why he prepared his dish the way it was prepared. And he couldn't answer it (well..tvb will make it so that he'll come up with a smart answer that makes everyone go woaaaah, but that's tomorrow's episode). I realized that the procedural work you do does not translate to you actually knowing what you're doing or why you're doing this work. This is something I thought of last week at work because I felt that yes, I could do all the technical parts of a tax return, I know where the numbers go into which box or how to complete a file and how to pick samples and vouch for them, but do I know why? Do I even understand the bigger picture? In terms of work or specifically auditing, I have no idea. I told my senior this and he said this will take time and experience. And I'm sure it does. However, in general, it's really hard for me always get the bigger picture. I look at it into bits and pieces and I'm good, but when asked why I do this...I don't know how to explain. Not only does this relates to work but also my relationship with God. An example of this would be, I could be reading a Bible passage and understand the small bits..but do I understand the bigger picture? By understanding this, am I able to explain to others the reason why I am doing this or why I believe in God? I know that by understanding the bigger picture, I'll be more confident in what I do and if someone challenges me on my work and knowledge. Haha, I know I am all over the place. Gomen! What I took from the show tonight is that I must study the Bible more and memorize scripture. I know that knowing scripture by heart is a great tool to have.

On a side note, when chi lam was taking a picture in the show, he stuck out his tongue to the side - like me!!!! :D :D :D :D :D hahaha, don't tsk or sigh or roll your eyes at me! hahaha!!!
